What the Sun stands for
In a birth chart the Sun is the core of identity. On the map its lines mark places where that core is switched on, so you feel more like yourself.
The four Sun lines
The Sun ascendant line is read as presence, a place where people notice you. The Sun midheaven line is read as career and standing. The Sun descendant line is read as partnerships that reflect you back. The Sun imum coeli line is read as a home that feels like your own.
The other side
Tradition adds that a strong Sun can mean too much of yourself on show. Some people find the same places tiring, with little room to step back.
Checking yours
The map shows exactly which of your Sun lines pass near places that matter to you. A short trip or a few weeks there is the traditional way to test how a line feels.
A worked example: one birth's Sun lines
These are the four Sun lines for one real birth, March 2, 1994, at 15:30 in Chicago, with listed cities within 600 km east or west.

|---|---|---|
| Ascendant (AC) | Tokyo, Japan (369 km) | You stand out here, and people notice you first. |

What an hour of birth time does to the Sun line
An hour earlier or later and the Sun midheaven line sits about 15 degrees of longitude away, which is why a map needs a birth time you trust.
| Born at | Sun MC line | Closest listed city |

| 15:30 | 139.5°W | Anchorage, USA (559 km) |
| 16:30 | 154.5°W | Anchorage, USA (245 km) |
How to test a Sun line
A Sun line is usually easy to spot on a visit. Notice whether you speak up more and whether people ask what you do. It suits someone who has been feeling overlooked, and it can feel exposing to anyone who came for a rest.
