How to read a planet in a house

Start with the houses that hold the most planets, because that is where your attention tends to go. Then look at the angular houses, the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th, where a planet is read as being most visible to other people.

A house with no planet in it is not empty of meaning. It is read through the planet that rules the sign on its edge, wherever that planet sits.

Houses need your birth time, because the whole set turns once a day. A difference of two hours can move every planet into the next house, while its sign stays the same.

How your houses are worked out

We use the same chart code as our birth chart calculator: positions from astronomy-engine, the open-source astronomy library, in the tropical zodiac, with Placidus houses. At or beyond the polar circles, where Placidus can't be drawn, the chart uses Porphyry. The hours on each pair's page are local solar time. They shift through the year because the Sun does, and with your latitude. Its share is out of 2,112 birth moments spread evenly from 1950 to 2010, at 40° north. A share above or below one in twelve, 8.3%, comes from how Placidus houses vary in size at that latitude and how the planet moves. How we calculate the sky shows the checks.
