The north node in each of the twelve signs

By Maren Tremblay, Fatesight editor · Last updated

The north node is the point where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's path heading north, and astrology reads it in a birth chart as the direction you grow in. The south node, always in the opposite sign, is read as what comes easily and what you are moving on from.

Choose your north node's sign below for its own guide, or find it by date in the table.

On November 1, 2026, when this page was last updated, the north node was in Aquarius, from July 27, 2026 to March 26, 2028, and the south node in Leo.

How to find your north node

Your north node's sign comes from your birth date, because the node spends about a year and a half in each sign. The table above gives the dates from 2015 on, and each sign's page lists every stretch from 1940 to 2045. The past life calculator finds yours from a date of birth in one step, and its house needs your birth time, from the birth chart calculator.

How to read it

Read the north node's sign as the qualities to practice, and the south node's sign as the habits to lean on less. Then read the house: a north node in the tenth house points growth toward career and public life, and one in the fourth toward home and family. Each sign's guide below covers love, work, friends and family, and decisions.

The nodes in past life astrology

Past life astrology reads the south node as patterns carried from earlier lives and the north node as the lesson of this one. The north node and past lives guide sets out that reading, and the past life guides cover the rest of the tradition.

The north node: questions people ask

What sign is the north node in now?

The north node moves backward through the zodiac and changes sign about every eighteen months. The line above the table gives its sign on the day this page was last updated, and the table gives every change from 2015 to 2031.

Does everyone born in the same year have the same north node?

Mostly. Everyone born within the same eighteen months or so shares a north node sign, while its house and exact degree depend on your birth time and place.

What is a nodal return?

The time the nodes return to where they were at your birth, about every 18.6 years: around the ages of 18 or 19, 37, 56 and 74. Astrologers read it as a year when the chart's direction of growth moves into focus again.

What does the south node mean?

It is read as your comfort zone: talents you use without effort and habits you fall back on. Past life astrology reads it as what you carried in from before.
