Zodiac signs by birthday

By Maren Tremblay, Fatesight editor · Last updated

Your zodiac sign by birthday is the sign the Sun was in on the day you were born: Aries from March 21 to April 19, Taurus to May 20, and on round the year to Pisces, February 19 to March 20. If you were born on the first or last day of a sign, the year and the time decide.

Every date of the year has its own page: choose your birthday in the months below.

How to use these pages

Find your birthday in the months below. Each date has its own page with your sign and decan, what the Sun, Moon and planets did on that date in every year from 1950 to 2010, the New and Full Moons and eclipses that fell on it, and the signs you tend to match with. Add your birth year on the page and it shows your own sky for that day, and the birth chart calculator adds your rising sign and houses once you know your birth time.

Cusp birthdays

The Sun doesn't change sign on the same day every year, because a calendar year of 365 days is almost six hours shorter than the Sun's year and leap days pull it back. The table above shows the days the Sun entered each sign from 1950 to 2010. If your birthday is one of them, your birth year decides, and on the day itself your birth time does: the birth chart calculator works it out to the minute.

Decans

Each sign is split into three decans of about ten days, and each decan is read as adding the flavor of another sign of the same element. An Aries born in the first decan is read as pure Aries, in the second with a touch of Leo and in the third with a touch of Sagittarius. Your sign's page has the rest, and today's horoscope reads the day for each sign.

How these dates are worked out

We take each position from astronomy-engine, the open-source astronomy library behind our birth charts, at noon UTC on the date, in the tropical zodiac our charts use. Changes of sign and New and Full Moons are searched to the minute in UTC, and eclipses are dated by the moment they peak. If you were born close to a change, your birth time and place decide. How we calculate the sky shows the checks.

Zodiac signs by birthday: questions people ask

What zodiac sign is my birthday?

Find your birth month and day in the table above. The Sun sign is the one horoscopes use; if your birthday is one of the cusp days listed there, your birth year and time decide.

What is a cusp birthday?

A birthday on the first or last day of a sign, when the Sun changed sign that day in some years and not in others. You belong to one sign: the one the Sun was in at the minute you were born.

What is my decan?

The third of your sign you were born in, about ten days each. Each date's page names its decan and the sign it is read as adding.

Do people born on the same day have the same chart?

They share the Sun sign and often the planets' signs, but the Moon, the rising sign and the houses change through the day and with the place, so two people born on the same day rarely have the same chart.
