January 17 is Capricorn: at noon UTC on this date from 1950 to 2010, the Sun stood between 26°19' Capricorn and 27°30' Capricorn, in the third decan, with the constellation Sagittarius behind it.

What the third decan of Capricorn is read as

The third decan of Capricorn is read as carrying a touch of Virgo and Mercury. It is the Capricorn who reads the small print. People here tend to plan in detail, to show love through remembering exactly what you said, and to be most at ease when the job is complicated and theirs alone.

What the number 8 adds

Numerology reads a birthday that comes to 8 as the mark of an organiser. It tends to mean a head for how things run, a wish to be in charge of your own work, and a respect for people who keep their word.
