How two signs are compared
Every sign has an element (fire, earth, air or water) and a mode (cardinal, fixed or mutable). These pages compare two signs by both, with two fixed rules: temperament from the two elements, and everyday pace from the two modes. Each rule gives a value out of 100, the same every time for the same pair, and each page says which rule it was and why.

Which zodiac signs are least compatible?
Signs three apart in the same mode, a square, are read as the most demanding pairs, such as Aries and Cancer. Demanding is not the end of the story: such couples tend to do well when each respects the other's pace.
Is Sun sign compatibility enough?
It is a starting point. A fuller match looks at both Moon signs, Venus and Mars, and the rising signs, which need both birth times.
What does a compatibility score mean here?
Each score out of 100 comes from one fixed rule about the two signs, temperament from their elements or pace from their modes, so the same pair always gets the same score in either order.
