What Mercury stands for
Mercury is the planet of thought, speech and exchange. On the map, its lines mark places where ideas come easily.
The four Mercury lines
The Mercury midheaven line is read as work built on communication, such as writing, teaching or sales. The Mercury ascendant line is read as a lively, talkative presence. The Mercury descendant line is read as partnerships built on conversation. The Mercury imum coeli line is read as a home with plenty of talk and study.
The other side
Too much Mercury is read as scattered attention and too many plans at once. Tradition suggests pairing it with a steadier planet.

What an hour of birth time does to the Mercury line
An hour earlier or later and the Mercury midheaven line sits about 15 degrees of longitude away, which is why a map needs a birth time you trust.
| Born at | Mercury MC line | Closest listed city |
|---|---|---|
| 14:30 | 143.4°W | Anchorage, USA (350 km) |
| 15:30 | 158.4°W | Honolulu, USA (58 km) |
| 16:30 | 173.5°W | Auckland, New Zealand (1,048 km) |
How to test a Mercury line
A Mercury line tends to show up as a busier mind. Count how many conversations you start and how many ideas you write down. It suits a course, a writing stretch or a trade fair, and it can be too busy for anyone looking for quiet.
