Retrograde planets 2027

By Maren Tremblay, Fatesight editor · Last updated

Every planet's retrograde in the year, with the exact dates and signs, worked out from the sky itself. A planet is retrograde when it appears to move backward against the stars as seen from Earth, an effect of how the two orbits pass each other.

Why planets go retrograde

The planets never actually reverse. Earth and the other planets go round the Sun at different speeds, so from here a planet can seem to slow down, stop and move backward for a time, as a car seems to slide back when you overtake it. The stop at each end is called a station. Astrologers read that slowing as a time for going back over what the planet stands for.

Which ones count

The tradition reads each retrograde by the planet and by the part of your life it passes through: Mercury for messages and plans, Venus for love and money, Mars for effort and anger, and the slow outer planets for long themes that build over months. Not every retrograde asks for the same thing, and the outer planets spend so much of each year in retrograde that most people hardly notice them. If you only follow one, make it Mercury.
