Finger length meaning
In palmistry, finger length is measured against the palm and against the other fingers. Long fingers are read as patience and attention to detail, and short ones as quick, big-picture thinking. A ring finger longer than the index is read as boldness and a wish to be seen, and a longer index as a wish to lead.

How to measure
Measure your middle finger from its tip to where it joins the palm, then measure your palm from that crease to the first wrist crease. A middle finger as long as the palm or longer counts as long. Under about three quarters of the palm's length counts as short. Between the two is what most hands have, and readers treat it as balanced.
Long and short fingers
Long fingers are read as someone who enjoys details, takes time over a job and may overthink a choice. Short fingers are read as someone who sees the whole thing quickly and acts, and who may be bored by the fine print. Neither is better, and one way to use the reading is to find a colleague or partner with the other kind.
The ring finger and the index
Hold your hand out with your fingers together. If the ring finger reaches higher than the index, palmists read it as a person who likes risk, likes being noticed and has a creative side. A longer index is read as ambition, self-belief and being comfortable in charge. When they are about level, it's read as someone who is even-tempered and keeps a balance between the two.
The little finger and the thumb
A little finger that reaches past the top joint of the ring finger is read as a good communicator, persuasive with words. A thumb that is long and firm is read as a strong will, and a thumb that bends back easily is read as being adaptable and generous, sometimes to a fault.
Finger length meaning: questions people ask
What does it mean if your ring finger is longer than your index?
In palmistry it is read as boldness, a liking for risk and a wish to be seen. It's the more common pattern on many hands, so read it next to the rest of your palm.
What do long, thin fingers mean?
They are read as a thoughtful, careful nature. In hand shape terms they usually go with the air or water hand.
Which hand do I measure?
Your dominant hand, the one you write with, since it is read as how you live now. Readers then compare it with the other.
