Which hand to read in palmistry
Traditionally the dominant hand, the one you write with, is read as the life you have shaped, and the other hand as what you were born with. Most readers look at both and compare them.
| Dominant hand | Read as your present choices and how you live now |
|---|---|
| Other hand | Read as inherited tendencies and potential |
| Most readers | Compare both |
The traditional rule
In Western palmistry the hand you write with shows how you have used what you were given: your habits, choices and experience. The other hand shows what you started with, such as temperament and potential. A reader looks for places where the two differ.
Left-handed people
The rule is the same for left-handed people: the hand you write with is the one that shows how you live now. Some older texts say left for women and right for men. Most modern readers have dropped that rule.
Why compare both hands
If the lines match, the tradition reads it as a person living close to their nature. If a line is deeper or clearer on one hand, it is read as something developed over time, or as something set aside.
What to do with a photo
A clear photo of each hand in even light shows the main lines. Hold the hand flat, fingers slightly apart, and keep the camera directly above it. Reading both hands and comparing them follows the tradition most closely.

Do you read the left or right hand?
Read the hand you write with for your present life, and the other for what you were born with. Most readers use both.

Do the lines on both hands match?
Rarely exactly. The differences are what many readers look at first.
