Palm lines

Heart line meaning

By Maren Tremblay, Fatesight editor · Last updated

The heart line is the curved crease near the top of the palm, running from under the little finger toward the index or middle finger. In palmistry it is read as how a person gives and receives affection, how openly they feel, and what they look for in a partner.

How to find your heart line

Hold your hand open in good light. The heart line is the highest of the long creases, sitting about a finger's width below the base of the fingers. It starts on the outer edge of the palm, under the little finger, and travels across toward the index finger.

If you see two lines in that area, the upper one is usually the heart line and the one below it is the head line.

Where the heart line ends

Palmistry gives the end of the line the most attention. A line that curves up between the index and middle fingers is read as a warm, generous way of loving. One that ends under the middle finger is read as someone who puts their own needs a little ahead. A line that runs straight across to the edge below the index finger is read as a person who reasons about feelings before they show them.

Long, short, curved and straight lines

A long, curved heart line is read as openness: someone who says what they feel. A short or straight one is read as a more private person, who shows care through actions more than words. Depth matters too. A deep, clear line is taken as steady feeling, a faint one as feelings that shift with circumstances.

Breaks, forks and chains

A break in the heart line is read as a turning point in how someone loves, often tied to a major change in their life. A fork at the end is read as someone who sees both sides of a relationship. A chained or wavy line is read as a stretch of uncertainty. None of these is a verdict. Lines are said to change over the years, which is why readers look at the whole hand.

Heart line meaning: questions people ask

What does a long heart line mean?

In palmistry a long heart line is read as a person who feels deeply and shows it. It reaches across most of the palm, and the tradition links it to warmth and loyalty in close relationships.

What does a short heart line mean?

A short heart line is read as someone who is reserved about feelings and prefers to show care through action. It says nothing about how much a person feels, only how they tend to express it.

Which hand should I read the heart line on?

Many readers look at both hands. The dominant hand is read as how you live now, the other as what you were born with. See the guide on which hand to read for the full picture.
