Girdle of Venus meaning

By Maren Tremblay, Fatesight editor · Last updated

The girdle of Venus is a faint curved line above the heart line, usually running from between the index and middle fingers to between the ring and little fingers. In palmistry it is read as sensitivity: a person who feels things strongly and responds to beauty, atmosphere and other people's moods.

How to find it

Look at the band of palm just below your middle and ring fingers. The girdle is a small arc running across it, with its ends pointing up toward the gaps on either side of those fingers. It's usually thin and easy to miss. Plenty of people have none, and that's as common as having one.

What it is read as

Palmistry reads it as a second, more nervous heart line. Someone with a clear girdle is said to respond quickly to a room, a song or a remark that others let pass. It can show up as artistic sense, and as a need for more stimulation than an ordinary week provides. Older books made a lot of its link to passion, and modern readers mostly speak of sensitivity.

Broken, double and clear

A broken girdle in several pieces is the usual form, and it's read as sensitivity that comes and goes with circumstances. A single clear arc is read as a steadier, more constant response. A double girdle is rare, and readers take it as an especially strong need for feeling and excitement.

Living with one

If your hand has one, the tradition suggests being careful about what you take in. That might mean a calmer room to work in, music you actually love and some recovery time after a big gathering. It can also mean picking people who don't find your reactions too much, and who enjoy that you notice things.

Girdle of Venus meaning: questions people ask

Is the girdle of Venus rare?

It's less common than the main lines, and many hands have only a broken trace of it. A full, clean arc is the uncommon form.

Does the girdle of Venus mean anything for love?

It's read as a strong response to closeness and to beauty. It doesn't say who or when, only how intensely you tend to feel it.

Is it the same as a second heart line?

No. A true second heart line runs next to the heart line for a stretch. The girdle is a separate arc set higher up, near the fingers.
