Palm reading chart
A palm reading chart is a map of the hand: five main lines cross the palm, and seven raised pads, the mounts, sit around them. Read the heart line first, then the head and life lines, then the fate and sun lines, and then the mounts.
| Main lines | Heart, head, life, fate and sun |
|---|---|
| Mounts | Jupiter, Saturn, Apollo, Mercury, Venus, the Moon and Mars |
| Where to start | The heart line, under the fingers |
How to use the chart
Hold your hand open in good light, with the fingers relaxed and slightly apart. Find the long creases first, because they are the easiest to see, and match each one to the chart by where it starts rather than by how it looks. Hands vary a great deal, so yours won't look exactly like the drawing, and a line that is missing or broken is normal.
Once you've found the lines, press lightly around the base of each finger and feel for the mounts. A pad that feels fuller than the rest is the one a palmist would read first.
The order palmists read in
The heart line sits highest, running across the palm under the fingers, and is read for how you love and how you show it. The head line sits below it and is read for how you think. The life line curves around the thumb and is read for your appetite for change. The fate line runs up the middle of the palm and the sun line beside it, and both are read for direction and for how you are seen, and many hands lack one or both.
Reading the mounts with the lines
A line means more when you look at where it goes. A heart line that ends under the index finger reaches the mount of Jupiter, and is read as idealistic in love. One that ends under the middle finger reaches Saturn, and is read as more guarded. The same logic applies across the hand: the fingers and the pads below them give a line its direction.
Which hand the chart shows
The drawing shows a left hand as you look at it. Most palmists read the hand you don't write with as what you were born with, and the one you write with as how you live now. Comparing the same line on both hands is one of the most useful things a chart lets you do on your own.

Palm reading chart: questions people ask
What are the 5 main lines on the palm?
The heart, head, life, fate and sun lines. The first three are on almost every hand, and the fate and sun lines are often faint or absent.
Where is the mount of Venus?
At the base of the thumb, inside the curve of the life line. It is usually the largest pad on the hand.
Do I read my left or right hand with this chart?
Either. The lines are in the same places on both hands, mirrored. See which hand to read for what each is said to show.
